About the session: Dialogues at the Crossroads of Futures Literacy
Futures Literacy has become a topic of significant debate within the futurist community, sparking diverse opinions and discussions. To explore this complex subject, APF has invited Bronwyn and Loes, two experts who will engage in an exploratory discussion on how to engage others in making sense of the future. Bronwyn, known for her critical stance, questions the widespread adoption of the use of "Futures Literacy," highlighting potential limitations and pitfalls. Loes champions the model, emphasizing its utility and relevance in today's rapidly evolving societal and technological landscapes.

Bronwyn Williams: With a keen analytical mind, Bronwyn brings a critical perspective to the discussion, challenging conventional thinking and encouraging a more profound exploration of Futures Literacy. Bronwyn, a partner at Flux Trends and an associate at Futurist.com, brings over a decade of experience in strategic foresight and trend research. Specializing in fintech trends and sustainable future design, she co-authored "The Future Starts Now" and is a recognized media commentator and keynote speaker. Her academic background spans Marketing Management, Economics, Foresight, and Future Studies. Bronwyn consults globally for a diverse client base and lectures at top universities. She is also involved with the Association of Professional Futurists, the Millennium Project, and the Lifeboat Foundation.
Loes Damhof: An ardent advocate for Futures Literacy, Loes offers a compelling vision of its importance, advocating for its role in shaping our understanding of the future. Loes, a Futures Literacy Expert and award-winning educator, focuses on using futures to rethink the present. Awarded Teacher of the Year in Higher Education in The Netherlands, she has pioneered Futures Literacy in collaboration with UNESCO. As a senior lecturer and consultant, Loes has facilitated global Futures Literacy Labs, addressing a multitude of topics from energy to human rights. She currently leads the UNESCO Chair for Futures Literacy at Hanze University and is developing "The Emergence Academy" for new activism.
