personal bio
Zan is a Canadian futurist and educator. Her roots extend to the Caribbean, Africa and Europe. She currently resides on the traditional unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin People.
FOREsight experience
I've been working on futures-oriented projects for about 20 years but I started my formal training in 2009. I have used my foresight/futures skills in public, private and non-profit sectors on projects related to transportation, municipal planning, the arts and cultural industries, public and post-secondary education and more. Since 2017, I have been teaching in OCAD University's Strategic Foresight and Innovation program. The focus of my current work at Policy Horizons is on foresight capacity building for public servants. This includes assessing learning needs, developing learning pathways, assessing and creating learning resources and the evaluation of Horizon's foresight capacity development initiatives.
Academically trained, my futures work is informed by the intersection of foresight/futures studies, systems thinking and design, and is fuelled by deep interests in centring marginalized communities and fostering the blossoming of decolonial futures, trauma-responsiveness, and regenerative transformation for all.
